Push To Repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell”

Jon9th Jul 2009news

In the past the armed services of the United States has discriminated against different people. Until World War 2 black people could not serve in the same unit in the military. It was only more recently that we have started letting woman in the armed services. There was the 1997 movie “G.I. Jane” that depicted how woman are just as capable as men to serve. In that same movie, the “Jordan O’Neill” character was suspected of being gay and was removed from training while an investigation took place.

Now it’s 2009 and we are still dealing with the “don’t ask don’t tell” policy of the military. Personally I don’t see where the problem is. I have some gay friends and it wouldn’t bother me in the least if they decided to join the armed services.

I can understand kicking a person out if they don’t live up to the standards of a soldier. But to arbitrarily kick a person out of the armed services because of their sexual orientation is wrong.

Here is my proposal to the problem: No person applying to or currently serving in the armed services shall be denied the ability to serve only for performance related reasons.
